Brazilian American artist, Monica da Silva, is back with a new single “Soldado de Amor” (“Soldier of Love”) and it’s an exquisite indie nova track that has all the trimmings of samba. There is a threadlike dose of soul that blends gracefully in the background as your ears pluck up the soothing strings, drummings, and deliberate piano chords. It is the type of track that you would put on-repeat for hours:

Monica co-wrote “Soldado de Amor” with her brother Bruce Driscoll (Freedom Fry, Blondfire), who also produced the track alongside her longtime collaborator Chad Alger (from Complicated Animals). Monica cited the “marchinhas” (marches) and samba songs from Brazilian Carnival as the inspiration behind the track. If Monica’s voice sounds familiar, it’s probably because you may have heard of her songs from TED, The World Cup, Ibiza Beats, and hipster cafes. You can follow Monica on Facebook and Instagram.
