Indecision Is A Soul-Crushing Epidemic In Waters’ “You Don’t Know What You Want”

Indecision kills hope for humanity.

“You shit-talk your friends / But you still hang with them / You don’t know what you want” chants Waters’ frontman Van Pierszalowski in their new playful single “You Don’t Know What You Want.” The Californian quintet addresses the epidemic of indecision – aka yes-but-like-no syndrome – that seems to spread like wildfire universally. Admit it. You’re also guilty of it. We’ve all RSVPd and flaked in the last minute; declared eternal sobriety and hit happy hour 10 hours later. Using a pop base covered with gauzy ambient rock, Waters paints the portrayal of an indecisive individual who leaves those around him or her in constant dilemma:

“‘You Don’t Know What You Want’ is a mashup of various flashes of conflict and disagreement I’ve had in relationships in between long stretches of highway and days spent hanging out at the Subway on Kodiak Island in Alaska. There have been so many times in my life where I have literally no idea what is going on in my partner’s head and I wanted to make it all into a fun pop song so I could deal” shared Pierszalowski.

The track is from the quintet’s upcoming record, Something More!, which will be released on May 19th. Upon returning from their tour with the likes of Tegan & Sara, Weezer, and Matt & Kim, they composed and recorded the album this past year in LA. As of now, the five-piece have show dates coming up:

6/8 – The Roxy (Los Angeles, CA, USA)

6/10 – Shoreline Amphitheater (Mountain View, CA, USA)
