The Elwins Takes Us Foot-Stomping Into Our Lust In “Hey! Ya, You”

Orchestrating simple desires in grand-sized beats.

Canadian pop-rock quartet, The Elwins, bombards us with adrenaline-kicking and foot-stomping single “Hey! Ya, You,” where the four chant our desire for intimacy. The lyrics do not have any metaphorical embellishments and instead take an explicit approach. “Hey! Ya, You / How ya doin? / Would you like to be my / Be my sweetheart?” sings vocalist Mathew Sweeney. The choruses throb along the thumping tune that feels like a grand-sized melodic parade into your ears. The richness of the melody is balanced by the simplicity of the words where The Elwins do not try to elaborate any complex emotions and keep you hooked with their directness. Hit play:

“Hey! Ya, You” is from The Elwins’ upcoming third LP, Beauty Community, which will be out on October 13th. It is the follow up of their Juno Award-nominated record Play For The Keeps that included tracks such as “So Down Low”, which amassed more than 25 million streams. As of now the quartet are preparing for their tour, so go see them live:
