This is what a modern fairytale looks like.

UK songstress Gabrielle Aplin transports us to a suburban fairytale in her new video “Wake Up Slow.” Using pastel visuals, the video follows Gabrielle as she strolls through the streets and countryside where she is joined by a group of female dancers in smudgy eye makeup. There is a mystic air throughout the video that accentuates the irresistible buoyancy of the song. Directed by Charolotte Rutherford (who also directed Marina & The Diamonds’ “Blue), “Waking Up Slow” is a glimpse into the midpoint between fairyland and reality. Watch below:

“‘Waking Up Slow’ as a song is about appreciating life as it is and focusing on the positives and deciding to just be. I wanted to focus the video around the idea of not being able to sleep, and turning that night into an adventure instead of a frustration with no real line between reality and a dream. I wanted to incorporate an all female cast to blur the lines between day time and night time whilst having fun with fashion and colour” explained Gabrielle.

Since its release back in August, the track has already amassed 1.4 million streams on Spotify and circulated various radio stations. It is the opening track of Gabrielle’s upcoming EP, Avalon, which will be out on October 6th. She has tour dates coming up:
