“All straight boys care about / Is how their view from the outside” croons Shamir in his new music video “Straight Boy” where he is joined by a “white-washed” version of himself. Directed by Ryan Carpenter, the video almost feels like an acoustic show where the softcore melody and clean background lets the viewer connect with Shamir as he gets blurred into his white persona. You get to see the authentic version of Shamir and the one that the media demands. Play below:

Shamir explained how the video is about “white washing and queer bating in media. Its about how frustrating it was for me to have my whole identity picked apart at a young age just to see straight white men use it as an aesthetic choice. The video, quite unequivocally depicts the process of white washing and the repudiation of the queer and people of color who pioneered.”

“Straight Boy” is from his new album, Revelations, which will be out on November 3rd and $1 per sale will be donated to Mental Health Association of PA. You can pre-order your copy here.  Shamir will start hitting the road this winter:
