Admit it, you’ve been there. And if you haven’t, fuck you. You got shitfaced wasted that the bouncer had to actually get in and drag you outta the bar. Glen Hansard reminds you of that moment in your life in his new animated video “Roll On Slow” where we see a cartoon version of him getting booted from bars in NYC. The song is a warm folk rock drenched in the lonely ambience of R&B that radiates the heart-burning hankering for a loved one who is away. Watch below:

“‘Roll On Slow’ was written while I was living in a former women’s refuge called the Florence Mission on Bleeker Street in NYC. My girlfriend was away in Europe and I was drinking too much. I was walking home from the Jonathan Swift bar at dawn, which was happening a few too many mornings in a row. The song is simply about missing your girl and being unable to take care of yourself.” explained Hansard.

In regards to the concept of the video, Director Piotr Kabat shared, “In terms of story we wanted to convey the vibe of a solo night out in New York. Getting kicked out of bars and hanging out in front of liquor stores ‘til sunrise just to escape from your own demons.”

Originally from Ireland, Glen Hansard has been songsmithing since 1990 and is also the vocalist/guitarist for The Frames and The Swell Season. He’s also an actor, having featured in the critically acclaimed films such as The Commitments and Once. “Roll On Slow” is from Hansard’s third solo album, Between Two Shores, which was released on January 19 of this year. He will embark on his tour next month, so make sure to catch him live:
