Los Angeles-based Brazilian/American duo Complicated Animals takes a new sonic route with their single “Show Me,” an 80s-kissed synthpop that takes you to the sultry dark waters of groovedom. While Complicated Animals are mostly known for their own “indie nova” genre (bossa nova + indie pop), they take a leap back in pop and add their own signature with “Show Me.” It is the type of seductive and soothing track that makes you replay your crush in slo-mo:

“’Show Me’ is one of those songs that just came out quickly and easily,” explained Monica da Silva. “I’d had the melody and the lyrics (Show me that you want me) stuck in my head for a few days. That really struck me as an intense, sexy idea for a song. Chad dug an old synthesizer we had out of the closet. We started stacking sounds and layering vocals. Virtually all of the sounds in the track were created using the same synth.”

Comprised of Monica and Chad Alger, Complicated Animals met in Chicago back in 2007 and debuted their album Brailissima in 2010. They recently moved to Los Angeles, which has inspired them to go into a more synth-based trajectory. As of now, the duo has some show dates coming up:

3/9 – Presqu’ile Winery (Santa Maria CA, USA)

3/11 – Maybeck Studio for the Performing Arts (Berkeley, CA, USA)
