Originally from San Diego but now based in LA, Simon XO seems to have a flair of turning shitty situations into party-ready electropop bangers that you’ll probably be blasting during the pre-game, at the party, and morning hungover. He debuted his two singles “Waiting For Me To Break” and “How Do I Fight It” recently and while both songs are about the impending doom that haunts him (depression and ex), you can’t help but indulge in the blood-rushing loops. “Want For Me To Break” is a bubbly piece where Sam chants about the extreme mood swings that we often go back and forth:
“How Do I Fight It” has a darker tone with crashing drum beats that capture the frustration of living close to your ex. “I wrote this song while I was going through a break up with a girl that lived two doors down from me in the same apartment building… no joke. I think this song embraces the hate side of the love/hate swings after a long relationship — when things get dug up, taken out of context and twisted around.” explained Simon. Oh, college:
Simon XO has been playing the trombone since he was a kid and is currently attending USC’s Thornton School of Music. He’s preparing to debut his EP, Covering, sometime this year so stay tuned for that.
