Experience Love As An Android In Zoé’s New Video “Azul”

When someone’s absence becomes a haunting omnipresence

Mexican rock group Zoé lets us experience love from an android’s view in their new sci-fi video “Azul” (“Blue”). The video opens up with a couple walking by the beach, where we see nature at its pristine form. But the storyline quickly takes an unexpected turn when we learn that the opening scene is just a memory of a man who has lost his lover and now lives in a dystopian future with his female android. Directed by the frontman León Larregui, “Azul” is told from the android’s perspective who tries to understand what love is:

“Estoy hundiéndome en el hábito de amarte / Y tú ya me olvidaste” (“I’m sinking in the habit of loving you / And you’ve already forgotten me”), chants Larregui. It’s a breakup/longing song where the absence of an individual becomes the haunting omnipresence that weighs on us.

“Azul” is from Zoé’s upcoming new album, which they haven’t disclosed any release dates yet. Formed Mexico City back in 1994, the psyche rock quintet is one of the iconic bands in the Spanish rock scene known for their numerous chart-topping singles, Grammy-winning records, and incessant quest for pushing the boundaries of rock. They will start their world tour this month, so make sure to save the date:
