Life Is A Mess Made Of Small Joys In Eleanor Friedberger’s “Everything”

Make, destroy, repeat.

Eleanor Friedberger captures the savory small moments of pleasure we get from getting our hair done, eating bread, painting, and making a mess in her new video “Everything.” Shifting between serene hair-washing scene to chaotic painting, “Everything” is a look into how different – often autopilot – activities can stimulate our senses and keep our neurons entertained more than we would like to admit. Watch below:

Director Jonah Freud described the video as “A surreal daydream of satisfaction, borne out of and finding joy within the mundane, ‘Everything ‘is a romp through the joyous, the silly, the sensual and the pleasing. Playing with the traits of the ASMR video world and the falsity of tutorial culture, while still indulging in their pleasures, the music video serves simultaneously as an embrace, an homage and a commentary to the world in which it exists.”

“Everything” is from Eleanor’s new album, Rebound, which she released last week via Frenchkiss Records. She has just announced new fall worldwide tour starting this September in DC and finishing (for now) in Germany in November. See her in person:
