There are certain things that Kanye says on Twitter that is absolute horseshit, but one tweet is undeniably witty: “I wish I had a friend like me.” It is always a constant struggle to socialize with our own species when part of us just wants some alone time. Canadian artist CRi captures that ongoing inner struggle in his 2-track EP Me And My Friends, where he takes us into an alternative galaxy with his aerated synths and swelling ambience. The lead track, “Me And My Friends,” features the siren-like vocals of Sophia Bel where the duo boxes us into the start of a friendship over cigarettes and breaks.
The answer is to basically be friends with yourself…then you get some alone time, but at the same time socialize. We don’t know if CRi agrees with the Kanyesque solution, but we do know that this EP is a reflection of his own anxieties and introspection, which he’ll be sharing more in his upcoming LP (set to release in 2019). The Montreal artist has been making waves across the electronic scene with his Juno-nominated EP Someone Else via TOKiMONSTA’s label Young Art. As of now, CRi has a performance coming up at the Piknic Électronik Montréal, so go friendzone him:
