Hana Vu Knows How To Connect With Your Loneliness In The Crowd

Her show is an existential experience…in a confusingly good way.

Hana Vu recently graduated from high school, yet she sounds like a therapist who knows how to put your loneliness into words while pushing the right emotional pressures. Her debut EP, How Many Times Have You Driven By, is the byproduct of 5+ years of songsmithing where Hana pours out the ambition, isolation, attachment, and introspection that we all juggle with daily.

Vu recently played at the Teragram (Los Angeles), where she performed alongside SALES and No Vacation. Although her songs have that warm and smudged ambience of bedroom pop, in-person she delivers a refreshing groove that establishes a rare, telepathic form of connection with her crowd. There’s a sense of nostalgia and loneliness that transpires within her smooth, steady vocals while she builds her own existential mythos. As she stands awash in the neon blue lights, it’s hard to not indulge in the buoyant melancholia of her presence while shuffling through your own memories of loneliness and doubt.

For a 17-year-old teen, Hana has the observational wit and swagger of an adult who is dealing with quarter-midlife crisis – and that’s what makes her performance so therapeutic. Make sure to catch Hana in person this fall:
