Information is poison for the soul

UK duo Maribou State walks us through the paranoia we all suffer from getting saturated with information in their new single “Nervous Tics.” The track veers between haunting indietronica and distorted jazz that exudes a surrealistic presence. Its structural grandiosity embodies both the overwhelming anxiety we get from technology and the mental relief that we get by disconnecting from it. Stream below:

“‘Nervous Tics’ is about the low-lying panic of modern life” explained Holly, “we’re all on our phones getting terrible news headlines and hyperreal Instagram images livestreamed into our brains, and it’s making us jumpy. This song is the realisation that no amount of mindful breathing or downward dog can replace some good old fashioned human contact and emotion.”

The track is from the duo’s upcoming album Kingdoms in Colour, which will be out on September 7th. Maribou State is comprised of Chris Davids and Liam Ivory who started songsmithing together in 2011. Their debut album Portraits led them to worldwide tour including Asia, Australia, America, and Europe. The duo is currently touring Europe and will be announcing North American shows soon:
