Breakups are awkward, especially when you’re about to dump someone but can’t muster the courage to do it. UK artist Eliza Shaddad addresses the bizarre stage of pre-breakup when you’re still committed to someone but have lost all the emotional attachment in “This Is My Cue.” It’s an atmospheric rock piece that is landlocked between dreamy poise and jaunty constructions where Eliza uses the simple tools of indie rock to help us digest the uneasy, uncomfortable phase. In regards to the track, Eliz describes it as “Literally what’s going around inside my brain in most relationships…This song is about freedom and anguish and trying to find the strength of mind to end things.”

“This Is My Cue” is from Eliza’s upcoming debut album Future, which Eliza has been working on for the past two years and will be out on October 26th. Known for her social activism, Eliza is also the co-founder of female arts collective, Girls Girls Girls, which promotes female-empowerment through cross-disciplinary events around UK. The organization also raises awareness and funding for anti-female genital mutilation charity Orchid Project. Eliza will start her UK tour in October, so go check her out:
