Addiction Is An Indulgent Disease In Church Girls’ “Cycles”

Philadelphia-based post-punk quartet channels the obsessive and habitual qualities of addiction in their new single “Cycles.” With a pinch of pop and swirling layers of post-punk, “Cycles” has a repetitive rhythmic structure to it that delineates the never-ending pattern of addiction. The boiling riffage exudes a dark aura that is as mesmeric as our latest bad habit:

“Cycles” is about dealing with an addictive behavior. “I have an addictive nature that I need to address myself, so I shouldn’t be judging this person for their issues. Whether it’s drinking or pretending everything’s fine, I’ll keep coming back. Despite all the cycles of resentment and reconciliation, I’ll keep coming back. There’s still a way to win, and I’m still going to try and make things right.” shared vocalist Mariel Beaumont.

The single is from the band’s upcoming EP Cycles, which will be out on January 25th and taps into breakup and substance abuse. The band will start touring today, so go check them out:
