NY-based duo Me Not You breaks down our current American Dream crisis that is haunting Millennials and Gen Z in new single “America.” Over a contemplative soundscape of bursting, ethereal synths and garage tints, “America” walks us through the disappointments, anxiety, confusion, and frustration that young people encounter in the current political climate. There is a sense of loss in cultural identity along with redefinition of it as the duo capture the feeling of standing between delirium and reality:
“‘America’ is a look at the soul of my country. It’s a song about the disconnect between what I thought it was, and what I fear it might be. Especially in the wake of the crisis of mass detentions and the separation of families at our border, I think it’s time we took a long look in the mirror and ask who we are, what we really stand for, and where we go from here,” shared MNY’s Nikki.
The track is from the duo’s upcoming debut record Already Gone, which will be out on November 8th.
