R&B artist DAWN, aka Dawn Richard, is giving us a double treat today by dropping her new singles “Ay Papi” ft. Brooke Candy and “Slim Thicc” ft. Trakgirl. The video, directed by Monty Marsh, features DAWN in a sultry cut-out outfit as she embraces her curves and celebrates her Haitian roots with “Slim Thicc” in the background. The second half of the video shows DAWN wearing nothing but pearls with a risqué elegance that complements the sensual tonality of “Ay Papi.” Enjoy:
“This series of singles marks the start of a new era,” DAWN explains. “new breed was the introduction to my roots. This era dives in each to each cultural influence specifically, highlighting all the pop influences I’ve experienced with cultural flare.”
DAWN broke into the scene as part of the girl band Danity Kane back in 2005. She was also the member of Diddy – Dirty Money, which comprised of Kalenna Harper and Sean “Didddy” Combs. The band released the critically acclaimed record Last Train to Paris before disbanding in 2012. After the disbandment and her departure from a major label deal, DAWN decided to pursue a solo career. Since then, the gal has released various Billboard-charting records (including this year’s new breed and 2016’s Redemption) and broke the record by becoming the first artist to perform in 360° on YouTube. “Ay Papi” and “Slim Thicc” is just a glimpse into a larger project that will be coming in spring 2020, so stay tuned.
