With booming thumps and chest-swelling choruses, Hertfordshire-based BYFYN (aka Ellie Isherwood) captures our identity crisis in grand euphonic splendor in her latest single “Ain’t Gonna Be Lonely.” If you’ve developed a spiritually unhealthy dependency towards your partner (or dog), then this is a reminder to get in touch with your own sense of self. Existential theme aside, “Ain’t Gonna be Lonely” blooms over its propulsive production that is graced with a mild dose of melancholia:
Speaking of her new single, “I had been going through a bit of a crisis of identity and I was struggling with anxiety. I began to realise just how co-dependent I had become on my boyfriend of 6 years. I hate being alone, I always have, but it had kind of reached a crisis point for me, where I was like, I’m in my mid 20s now, I need to examine what’s going on here, so I wrote this song as a start.”
The track is from her upcoming EP, which will be out in December.
