An ode to coastal happiness

Brisbane artist Elle Músa lets us vicariously savor the perfect summer by the ocean in her latest video “Merman.” Directed by Stephanie Furton, the video was shot in Turquoise Coast using nostalgic aesthetics to channel pristine coastal happiness. “I wrote this song on the road a few years ago. I was travelling in a van with my boyfriend through NSW. We would drive all day and park the van by the ocean as the evenings set in. I remember writing this one morning after waking up to a perfect view of the sea. As I was thinking about the mysteries of the ocean, Mermaids and Merman came into my mind and I started to sing about the many dreams I have had about tidal waves and mystical creatures,” shared Elle. Looking back to making the video, the gal shared:

“It was last June when Elle & I drove from Paris to the French Riviera. Along the way, she played me her song Merman. Her voice, which had been keeping company for hours, now transformed against the transportative track. We had worked together previously on Mango Pops, and to collaborate on a fated moment, almost too perfectly encapsulating our time together in the summer, was only natural. To me, Merman recalls the fleeting and the daydreams; feelings that were exceptionally needed during those months. Bringing nostalgia into the present: a young man rushes to return to the comfort of tranquility. With the help of friends, Ellis Kaan Özen (our brilliant Assistant Director) and Rafael Cemo Cetin (our dreamy merman), and (wonderful NY-based editor) Peter Haffenreffer, we hope to give anyone who watches a sun-kissed reminder of the beauty out there.”
