UK artist Joshua Luke Smith leave us with a message of hope as we navigate through these bizarre times in his latest single “Shine On.” It’s an alternative pop piece filled with gritty riffs and introspective tones as Joshua fuels us with sanguine spirit. Layered with the cathartic choruses of Joshua, “Shine On” propels with a breakneck intensity with a poetic flair:
Speaking of the track, Joshua elaborated:
“‘Shine On’ came together suddenly. I don’t even remember starting or finishing the song, it was as if it was already formed and I found it. I needed these words and found that in acknowledging my unique experiences of loss and confusion, I felt united with others and surrounded by hope. I remember speaking out the line from the bridge knowing my family was in turmoil, my dad was battling cancer, we were on the brink financially, the global pandemic was unfolding, our first child was on the way and the future couldn’t be more uncertain. Yet, announcing those words felt like a battle cry, a call to arms and proclamation of hope, for myself and others.”
A poet at heart, Joshua was born in London but was raised in Pakistan where his parents were building a hospital. He eventually ended up settling in Bath, UK where he majored in Philosophy at the Bath Spa University. Aside from music, he’s also writing his first book.
