If there’s anything we learned in 2020 is to learn how to survive and even embrace chaos. London artist Rasharn Powell reminds us of such art in his latest single “Freedom,” a very delicate alternative piece that has alluring air of sophistication to it. With Powell’s therapeutic voice, “Freedom” sounds as soothing as a meditation app but so much cooler and upbeat where he nudges us to look back and know how to thrive within the mayhem. Enjoy:
On the inspiration behind his new single, Powell shared: “This year has taught me a lot and forced me inwards. I rediscovered the youthful freedom we too often lose in adolescence. I’m comfortable in the chaos and I guess that’s my new freedom.”
Powell’s love for music started at an early age when his grandfather introduced him to dancehall and dubplates. A poet at heart, he started devouring literature later and has been drawing musical inspirations from other poets such as James Baldwin, Marlo Morgan, and many more. “Freedom” may wrap up 2020, but it offers a glimpse into what we can expect from the maestro in 2021.
