Stockholm quartet Melby sweeps us up to a dreamy flight with their latest single “Old Life.” With hints of shoegaze, “Old Life” is a buoyant pop with psychedelic touches where the band suspends you in cloud 9. “Old Life” serves as both a vicarious remedy for wanderlust and also to moving on from the old lifestyle that no longer fits us. The track comes with an animated video made by Isabelle Friberg, which you can check out below:
Regarding their latest release, the band commented: “Old Life consists of an upbeat, sort of entangled, rhythmic foundation, playing against gloomy and almost dreamlike melodies on top. It sounds a bit like flying, looking down at the landscapes and people passing by beneath you. You’re flying fast, but there’s also this peacefulness to it. That feeling ties into the lyrical theme, that revolves around moving to another country, and leaving your old life behind.”
Like many bands, Melby also experienced cancelled tours and spent 2020 working on new material. The band’s lineup is Wiezell (vocals), Are Engen Steinsholm (back-up vocals, guitar), David Jehrlander (bass) and Teo Jernkvist (drums) who formed while living together in Stockholm.
