Leeds-based newcomers L’objectif dives deep into the psyche of a modern teen in their new gritty single “Drive In Mind.” Think of the iGen who are spending their last few years of adolescence in a pandemic world that feels overwhelmingly chaotic at times. With “Drive In Mind” the band offers an IMAX view of random thoughts, anxieties, and visions that goes through their mind in this day and age. It’s industrial rock built on booming riffs and explosive post-punk elements that deliver a punch of adrenalin:
Speaking of their latest single, the band shared: “I started thinking about drive-in cinemas and those massive screens that they have with everyone parked watching the events of the film unfold. The idea of people coming to watch the contents of someone’s mind was interesting to me, the thoughts, anxieties and all the things you don’t want people to see exposed on a big screen. The lyrics are statements, ideas and observations that I was thinking around the time I wrote it, a cluster of thoughts exposed and amplified through song.”
L’objectif are Saul Kane (vocals, guitar) and Louis Bullock (drums) – who first formed a band together at the age of 12 – Ezra Glennon (bass) and Dan Richardson (guitar). They’ll be playing their socially-distanced hometown show at The Wardrobe in Leeds on May 27th.
