Karaboudjan, the solo project of Billy Kim, explores the notion of loss and vulnerability in new single “Let Go.” Although the lyrics address a heavy-hearted theme, “Let Go” has a buoyant melodic feel to it thanks to the laidback breeziness of its sonic structures. With “Let Go,” Karaboudjan invites us into the most vulnerable corners of his mind as he addresses the loss of a loved one – in his case, the passing away of his dad. “I originally wrote the song instrumentally back in 2013. I knew I wanted the lyrics to contrast the light and laid-back dance vibe the music has. I also knew I wanted the song to be about losing my dad, and the vulnerability that it ensues. Lyrically, I finished the entire song in an instant, all but the chorus. And that is how that song stayed until I rehashed it for this EP,” shared Karaboudjan. Check it out:
While the initial parts of the song were created back in 2013, Karaboudjan did not finish it until later. “It was an interesting experience to write a song in two different stages of life for me,” explained Karaboudjan. “But it sort of feels like it was supposed to happen in the way that it did. It was also a bit comical as I had to just ‘let go’ of how the old part sounded. Acceptance in two very different forms.”
The track is from his upcoming debut EP IMAGO, which Karaboudjan wrote most of the songs in it when he joined Tycho’s touring band and moved to Union City, New Jersey. More details to come.
